Research interests

Madhumalar Subramanian is interested in studying the structural morphology of apolipoprotein E to understand its role in Alzheimer’s disease. The underlying mechanism and dynamics leading to its pathophysiology are studied using various biochemical and biophysical techniques. The project focuses on obtaining structural information using techniques such as hydrogen exchange mass spectrometry (HX-MS), cryo-electron microscopy and X-ray crystallography. Apart from these techniques, chromatography and spectroscopic techniques are used for initial sample characterization. Madhumalar Subramanian works on establishing a workflow for ApoE nanodisc preparation and to study ApoE fragmentation and aggregation.
