The group was established in 1994. The first research project focused on the development of structure-biodegradability relationships and was financially supported by the European Union. The Josef Loschmidt Chair was established at the Faculty of Science of Masaryk University by a donation of Alfred and Isabel Bader<\/a> to honour the name of a great Czech scientist of the 19th century, Jan Josef Loschmidt. Jiri Damborsky was appointed to the Chair in 2003 and Loschmidt Laboratories were founded two years later. The Laboratories hold prestigious awards from the European Molecular Biology Organization<\/a> and the American foundation Howard Hughes Medical Institute<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The first biotechnology spin-off of Masaryk University, Enantis<\/a> Ltd., was founded by the members of Loschmidt Laboratories in 2006 and the software spin-off company CaverSoft<\/a> in 2011. Since 2008, Loschmidt Laboratories are part of the Department of Experimental Biology<\/a> and the Research Centre for Toxic Compounds in the Environment<\/a>.
