Martin Toul

Enzyme kinetics and mechanisms

Martin Toul, Ph.D.

Martin is a postdoctoral researcher at VIB–UGent in Belgium, where he applies advanced biophysical and structural biology methods to investigate selected human receptors and rationally design novel biomolecules for therapeutic applications. He completed his Ph.D. at Loschmidt Laboratories, Masaryk University (Czechia) by specializing in detailed enzyme kinetics and biophysics towards elucidating the molecular principles of luciferase bioluminescence and designing engineered thrombolytic proteins. His international research experience includes stays at ETH Zürich (Switzerland), UT Austin (USA), VISTEC (Thailand), and KTH Stockholm (Sweden). Martin has co-authored over 15 peer-reviewed publications and an international patent. His work has been recognized with multiple fellowships and awards, including Marie Curie (MSCA), Fulbright Postgraduate, and FWO Junior postdoctoral fellowships, Czech Head Doctorandus Award, and FEBS Communication Prize. As a founding member of CSBMB Junior and an active contributor to FEBS Junior Section, he actively promotes science through mentoring, teaching, and public engagement.
