5th Hands-On Computational Enzyme Design Course Successfully Behind Us

The 5th Hands-on Computational Enzyme Design Course organized by the Loschmidt Laboratories was performed on-line in February 2024. We had 75 participants selected from a large pool of applicants. To promote the education of disfavoured students, we granted four scholarships that fully covered the course fees. Overall, participants in the course were from 22 countries and three continents (72% from academia and 28% from industry). The course consisted of three days of lectures, tutorials and discussions focused on mining and analysis of novel enzymes, engineering protein stability and solubility, engineering enzyme activity and specificity, machine learning applied to protein engineering.

The feedback from the participants was very positive:
From a beginner’s perspective into the bioinformatic world, it has been a great experience. I have learned many things and also the format allowed me to follow the course easily. This is the first online event that I attended and there were not technical problems! Very well organized and I did not feel lost at any time, so congratulations to Sérgio and the whole team!
The course was very well paced, extremely well organized. The instructors were really helpful. I would recommend this course for all who wants to learn more about enzyme engineering no matter where in the enzyme engineering career you are, you would find something useful from this course. The tutorial instructions are pretty intuitive and easy to follow.
This was the most informative course I have ever been to. I have the feeling that I learned so much, theory as well as practice, and now have a great base for my future work in enzyme and protein design. A heartfelt THANK YOU to the whole team!
Very useful, insightful and very well organized course, I will recommend to anyone who would like to learn deeply computational design of proteins/enzymes.
Excellent course covering the basics for protein design in a highly digestible manner. Clear recommendation for anyone starting in the enzyme engineering field.
It was really well organized and all issues were promptly addressed, which was really amazing. The networking opportunities were available and all of the participants were really up for discussion and helping each other out. I think it was really valuable, wherever you are with your career and experience and it was easy to follow and exchange knowledge.
