Abstract
Computational tools improve protein parameters critical for their utilization in biocatalysis. Here we provide an overview of more than forty software tools available to the community of protein engineers. We discuss the focus points of rational protein design together with the task-specific software options, links to the websites and necessary input files. The success stories from biocatalysis exemplify the application of selected tools to improve practically beneficial enzymes. Finally, we provide a brief overview of unmet challenges and future development in rational protein design.
